WEBSITE OF ROBERT H. LEOS, Ph.D.

September 8, 2010, Austin, Texas. For many schools around the country, Labor Day signals the end of summer and the beginning of a new school year. Here in Texas, many school districts have been in session for two weeks, much to the dismay of many students who would have loved to have two more weeks at camp, on vacation, earning some extra cash, or just lounging. But here we go . . .

The State Board of Education meets this month on September 22, 23, and 24. When the official agenda is released, I will make a note of the highlights of the meeting right here in this space, so stay tuned.

In addition to the beginning of a new school year, September always signifies (to me at least) the beginning of the real pennant races in major league baseball. In the spirit of those pennant races, I am pleased to include a feature on "Practice! Practice! Practice! The History of the King Ranch Cowboys Baseball Team by my good friend in Kingsville, Donavan "Captain D" Lopez. Last October, I featured his book on the history of the Texas A&I University Los Paisanos Athletic Club. You might call Practice! Practice! Practice! a sequel of sorts. Click on "Features" to get the story.
